{open_quotes}Sustainable leadership{close_quotes} supports the management of complexity and diversity. But it is not an easy task. It requires a high level of awareness of system interrelation and a high level of {open_quotes}preventive wisdom{close_quotes} rather than {open_quotes}reactive cleverness{close_quotes} or {open_quotes}reactive reckoning{close_quotes}. Preventive wisdom seeks to be alert to and anticipate the multifaceted influences resulting from varied social and environmental context conditions. Management decisions based on preventive wisdom are likely to result in innovative solutions that avoid the well known negative social and environmental side effects or long-term economic damages of reactive decision making. Sustainable management thus represents a highly skilled, engaged and professional attempt to reach out for nothing less than the best solution. {open_quotes}Sustainable management{close_quotes} is the reflection of social, cultural, ecological, organizational and economic interrelations. Otherwise it would not fit the criteria of {open_quotes}sustainability{close_quotes}. From that point of view {open_quotes}sustainable management{close_quotes} requires a tough and multi process rooted training, as sustainability is a complex challenge in itself to deal with complexity, whether in nature, human cultures, organizational networks, means to understand, to balance, to integrate and to relate a variety of interdependencies. Thus sustainable and economic development may contribute to a win-win-strategy, instead of excluding each other, and represent a newly designed meaning of {open_quotes}Concentrate on what you can do best{close_quotes}.
