Title: Climate change impacts related to food consumption - a case study of Sweden

Conference ·
OSTI ID:577314

Present patterns of food consumption in Sweden include a substantial amount of imported vegetables as well as meat. Such a diet may be questioned for sustainability because of its dependence on, for example, inputs of energy emissions of greenhouse gases during the production, transportation and storage of some selected food consumed in Sweden during 1993 are quantified here. Contributors to the selected impact category are energy related emissions, leakage of refrigerants, and emissions of nitrous oxides from farm land. Total emissions are calculated in grams of CO{sub 2} equivalents per capita and per kg product.
