Testing for biodegradable hydraulic pressure media based on natural and synthetic esters
- Univ. of Technology Aachen (Germany). Inst. of Fluidpower Transmission and Control
This article describes a special test procedure for biodegradable fluids based on natural and synthetic esters and gives results of their examination. The test allows the evaluation of the special properties of these fluids, e.g., hydrolytic stability. By using a long endurance test, the fluid`s behavior during its use can be examined. The test rig works with serial hydraulic components. The loads are higher than in practice applications in order to reduce testing time. Therefore the results are transformable to applications in order to reduce testing time. Therefore the results are transformable to practice and it is possible to give a precise description of the fluid`s behavior. The change of the fluid`s properties and the aging behavior can be determined by analyzing samples. With this knowledge the technical performance of the fluids can be improved, by changing additive packages or base fluid types.
