Individual company involvement in various aspects of the US energy industry for 715 companies was surveyed. Approximately 55-60% of these companies own or produce reserves of oil or gas, and roughly 35-40% own or produce reserves of coal; 13% own uranium reserves, 8% have geothermal leaseholdings, and 3% own oil shale reserves; 5% of these firms manufacture solar heating collectors. By sampling a group of randomly selected non-responding firms, characteristics of the 1270 firms that did not respond to the questionnaire survey were inferred. Key findings emerging and specific application of the data base are discussed.
