Regenerative FGD: progress is slow but steady

Regenerative flue gas desulphurization systems have not found wide application in the utility industry largely because of their comparative complexity and higher capital costs. The fact that they do not pose problems of disposal of sludge or dry solids now makes them appear more attractive. Two processes are described, one is the aqueous carbonate process (ACP) developed by Rockwell International and being operated at a station in Tonawanda, NY. The other is the magnesium oxide process now in commercial operation at two of Philadelphia Electric's stations.
