Since the advent of computed tomography (CT), the diaphragmatic crura and retrocrural space are seen clearly. No other radiographic means allows us to define these structures so accurately. This pictorial essay reviews the normal appearance, anatomic variants, and pathologic lesions occurring in the retrocrural space. The anatomic relation of the diaphragmatic crura to adjacent structures have been well documented by CT and sonography.
