This Symposium on Fluid Machinery Components was sponsored by the Fluid Machinery Committee of the Fluids Engineering Division of ASME, which continues to provide a forum for the presentation of the most recent developments in turbomachinery. Recent world events are redirecting interest from military to industrial products and are opening up a truly international marketplace. The corresponding reorganization of industrial turbomachine manufacturers is changing many of the established informal working relationships among engineering professionals. In keeping with the open minded tradition of the Fluid Machinery Committee, the scope of this symposium is broad and unites a great variety of subjects. The papers were grouped in three sessions: Pumps, Compressors, and Seals, Cascades and Heat Exchangers. Indicative of the international nature of the technology, six of the twelve papers are from overseas.
