Title: Recent ozone episode over western Maryland

Abstract

Ozone and total oxidant concentrations in a rural atmosphere in Western Maryland were measured for the 2-week period 26 August to 9 September, 1980. Unusually high values for ozone, measured by a chemiluminescence method, and for total oxidant, measured by a colorimetric technique, were observed during both daylight and darkness. The 14-day average diurnal curve showed a minimum of 0.04 ppM ozone at 0845 EST, and a broad maximum of 0.075 ppM ozone at 1300 to 1830 EST. A maximum 15-minute average concentration of 0.13 ppM was measured. The average ozone concentration for the entire 14-day period was 0.059 ppM, while the total oxidant concentration was 0.060 ppM.
