A discussion of pipelines involved in the LOOP terminal i.e., the three 56 in. OD offloading pipelines, each 8000 ft long, that connect the three mooring systems and the pumping platform, and the 48 in. OD trunkline extending from the pumping platform 18 mi offshore to the Clovelly salt dome storage terminal near Galliano, La., covers the use of Grade X-60 line pipe; buckle arrestors; internal and external pipe coatings, including the 0.156 in. thick coal tar, glass mat reinforced corrosion protective coating on the 48 and 56 in. lines, which in addition were coated with concrete; and pipeline construction, including installation by the ETPM 1601 lay barge, and manual and automatic welding procedures.
