The feasibility of retrofitting the Houston Lake Dam near Perry, Georgia for power generation was examined. This run-of-the-river dam has a developable head of 17.5 ft, was built in 1842, had generating equipment installed in 1928 but thereafter abandoned, and now creates a recreational lake. The study of environmental, institutional, safety, and economic factors showed that this site appears to be feasible for rehabilitation for an investment cost of $187,000 plus dam repairs to meet safety requirements.
