Changing expectations and the role of demand side management in Canada
- Canadian Electrical Association (CA)
The circumstances in which Canadian electric power utilities find themselves today are vastly different form those that existed even a short 10 years ago. The public mood is different, and we have witnessed a dramatic shift in their expectations form our industry. A decade ago, most of our customers were content with utility performance that provided them with an adequate, reliable, safe, and reasonably priced supply of electricity.. The principal challenges were technical and financial as we struggled to keep up with the burgeoning demand for our product. This paper identifies some of the issues challenging the Canadian electric utilities and they describes a major initiative being aggressively pursued in Canada in order to gain some breathing space in our planning process.
