Skin effect and completion options in the ras burdran reservoir

High positive skin factors were encountered in early production wells drilled in Unit I of the Nubian Sandstone reservoir of the Ras Budran oil field. Laboratory tests and theoretical analyses were conducted, from which it was concluded that the observed skin factors could not be explained by conventional formation damage mechanisms. Alternative mechanisms are proposed, based upon the presence of low permeability quartzfilled fractures. These give rise to a heterogeneity. Types of completion potentially able to improve well productivity are identified.
