Because gas turbines driving gas-field generators and compressors sometimes operate on heavily contaminated, unsweetened gas, Woodward Governor Co. has developed gas-turbine controls that ensure steady performance in such conditions for periods up to 30,000 hr between major turbine overhauls. The 3103 fuel-metering valve, designed for 5000-50,000 hp engines, combines a self-cleaning feature with hardened parts to resist erosion. Operating in conjunction with electronic control systems, the valve and its TM55 electrohydraluic activator can schedule flow for acceleration and deceleration as well as control engine parameters such as shaft speed, torque, and gas temperatures and pressures.
