Capital cost savings of $50,000 achieved with sonic flowmeters

A problem was encountered in the design and building of a revised refinery wastewater treatment system when it became evident that three large flowmeters would have to be added. The flowmeters would have to be fabricated from concrete, the flow rate ranges required accuracy was +/-1% and the meter would have to be capable of withstanding wide pH fluctuations and potential chemical fouling. All requirements were met successfully by installing three sonic flowmeters within the allotted 60 day time period.
