Title: Computer-based word-processing system speeds nuke plant startup, cuts cost

Abstract

The start-up time for Louisiana Power and Light's Waterford III nuclear power plant will be shortened from 26 to 12 months by using the Automated Document Production System (ADOPS), a text management system that will pay for itself in the first half-day of reduced start-up time. With up to a billion megabytes of disc storage, the computer serves as a daytime word processor and as a remote job entry terminal at night. Start-up functions include critical path scheduling, compliance demonstration, and safety tracking and reporting. (DCK)
