Billerud heading study of Congo project
Billerud signed a contract recently with the Societe d'Etudes de la Celulose du Congo (SECC) to conduct a feasibility study for a projected eucalyptus-based pulp plant for the production of bleached marketing pulp in The People's Republic of The Congo. SECC is a consortium of financial institutions, the Congolese government and Billerud. The Congolese government has been planning for the construction of a eucalyptus-based pulp plant for a long time, and in 1978, full-scale eucalyptus plantations were started. These plantations are based on fast growing hybrid species of eucalyptus developed by the Centre Technique Forestier Tropical in the Congo and are ready for harvesting after only about seven years growing time.
