The harmonic voltage distortion caused by static convertors can be greatly affected by the presence of local salient-pole synchronous generators or compensators. Such machines act as harmonic converters and are sensitive to the sequence of the fundamental and harmonic frequencies. This paper provides an accurate equivalent circuit for the synchronous machine in the multi-harmonic space, integrates such model with other a.c. system components and describes an iterative sequential algorithm to derive the harmonic interaction between the synchronous machine and static convertor.
