An apparatus is described for determining the pump strokes of a pump having a moving element that moves cyclically. The appratus comprises: a force sensor mounted on said moving element for sensing said cyclic movement and generating a signal; an r.f. transmitter mounted on said moving element connected to receive said signal from said force sensor and transmit an r.f. signal; and an r.f. receiver spaced from said moving element for receiving said r.f. signal from said r.f. transmitter and indicating said pump strokes.
