Status report on potential human-health effects associated with power-frequency electric and magnetic fields. Rept. for Aug 90-Jun 91
Over the past 20 years, a number of scientific studies have suggested that exposure to 60 Hz electric and magnetic fields (EMFs) may be associated with human health effects, including an increased risk of cancer. The report presents the major results, activities, and findings of current and on-going EMF-related health effects research covering the time period August 1990 to June 1991. The report reviews research projects focusing on the following areas: Epidemiology studies of human EMF exposure and various diseases (19 studies), Human studies examining the health effects of EMFs on behavior and physiology (9 studies), Whole animal research investigating EMF effects on behavior, body function, and chemistry (26 studies), Cell-level laboratory studies examining impacts under a variety of EMF conditions (21 studies), Exposure assessment studies characterizing, measuring, and predicting the EMF exposure of living things (19 studies), and engineering studies exploring methods to reduce EMF exposure (8 studies).
