The publication documents the annual panel discussion conducted with members of Gas Research Institute (GRI) Board of Directors and Advisory Council. At this 1996 Energy Panel, the panelists presented a wide spectrum of industry views on the role of research and development (R&D) and the value and opportunities R&D affords their specific companies. A broad range of viewpoints and experiences were exchanged, focusing on the use of R&D as a successful strategic tool, the decline of R&D in the energy industry, the role of cooperative R&D, the value GRI`s R&D program has provided the industry, and the value of R&D in the future. The results of these discussions will help GRI develop a new framework for defining the value and direction of future gas-related R&D.
