Title: STUDIES ON VARIATIONS OF UNSATURATION OF LIPIDS IN SERUM BY THE EFFECT OF X- IRRADIATION

Rabbits receiving a single dose of 1000 r showed a considerable decrease in the iodine number of the serum lipids 24 hours after irradiation. A gradual return to that died. The decrease in iodine number was approximately parallel to changes in total fat and fatty acid levels. Less change was noted after irradiation with 300 to 500 r. Although the decrease in serum lipid iodine number after irradiation with 1000 r corresponded in degree to that of starving animals, it was not considered to be the result of starvation, but of abnormal fatty acid metabolism.
