A third-order interpolation technique for continuous-path, numerically controlled machines is developed. The interpolation method is based upon the digital integration of parametric cubic equations. Dimensional and velocity errors associated with the 'cubic interpolator' are analyzed and discussed. The results of the evaluation substantiates the use of the 'cubic interpolator' as a means to reduce data requirements for numerically controlled machines and still maintain dimensional and velocity accuracies.
