This articles reviews the use of Cr12 utility stainless steels as a simple means of dramatically improving the profitability and operating efficiency of the British mining industry. The trust of the paper is the use of tribology to determine the correct specification of materials for equipment construction to significantly reduce routine maintenance and extend life cycles. This particular paper addresses the benefits of Cr12 steels to resist abrasion and corrosion and compares it to several other steels to show the benefit of such material selection.
