Stability of light positronic atoms: Quantum Monte Carlo studies
- Laboratory of Physics, Helsinki University of Technology, FIN-02150 Espoo (Finland)
We present accurate ground-state energies for the positronium atom in a Coulomb field of point charge {ital Z} ({ital X}{sup {ital Z}}Ps), for the positronium hydrogen (HPs) and positronium lithium (LiPs) atoms. Calculations are done using the diffusion quantum Monte Carlo (DQMC) method. For {ital X}{sup {ital Z}}Ps, the critical value of {ital Z} for binding is examined. While HPs is stable, the results show that LiPs is unstable against dissociation to a lithium atom and a positronium. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}
