The paper examines issues of plant safety from the points of view of both design and field engineers. The authors analyze the steps necessary to minimize electrical hazards in industrial processing facilities. Special attention is paid to electrical safety conditions for operators, and maintenance personnel. The perspectives of design engineering and field engineering are combined to bring the reader an analysis of the hazards of electricity from initial design, through construction, operation, and maintenance of the facility.
