The hearing addresses Nuclear Waste Disposal. The Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982 charged the Federal Government with ensuring that spent nuclear fuel from the generation of electricity was disposed of in a safe, environmentally sound, and cost-effective and timely manner. The status of the Department of Energy`s (DOE) program to provide for nuclear waste storage is examined.
