The Indian solar pumping experience and commercialization initiatives
- Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd., New Delhi (India)
It is relatively easy to find a good agricultural location with water resources, however, availability of the necessary power for lifting and distribution of water is more of a constraint. For thousands of years human muscle power and draught animals have been used and still continue to be used in many parts of the world; the mechanized techniques for pumping of water which are becoming increasingly important to meet irrigation power requirements. Here, the range of available energy options is of decisive importance in the choice of a suitable pump. The paper presents the initiatives and measures to better understand and adapt solar pumping technology to the agricultural environment in India; results of experience and achievements to date.
