Managers of fertilizer and agrichemical facilities face a variety of decisions in establishing an environmentally sound operation. No challenge is greater than that posed by environmental compliance. Upgrading existing facilities to achieve this is one approach. Another approach involves building new facilities on new sites providing an opportunity to do things right the first time. A review of TVA`s National Fertilizer and Environmental Research Center`s multifaceted programs has provided valuable experience which can be easily adapted to many regions of the country. Transferring this technology has indicated that each facility is unique, requiring a complete understanding of production goals and operational limitations.
