Title: NALMCO certification

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:254511

The question I`m asked most by lighting professionals in my role as an executive officer of the International Association of Lighting Management Companies (NALMCO) is, {open_quotes}What does NALMCO have to offer me?{close_quotes} The factors most professionals consider when they look to join an association are the: (1) Reputation of the association, (2) Educational and training programs, (3) Professional certification, and (4) Opportunity to network. Perhaps the most valuable opportunity any association can offer is that of professional growth and recognition by one`s peers that are accepted within the industry and by the general public as well. The growing complexity of the lighting industry has created a demand for lighting management professionals who are attuned to the latest developments in lighting technology and energy conservation and how best to apply these developments. These professionals must be able to bridge knowledge with customer needs in a number of different areas, such as how lighting affects air-conditioning costs, the effect of lighting on worker morale and productivity, how the application of energy-efficient technologies will work as a system, and how to achieve diverse goals within management`s operating budget. NALMCO has a 40-year history of representing lighting management professionals and the lighting industry. The association`s certification program is the oldest existing program in the lighting industry, established in 1982 and acknowledged by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for use in its Green Lights Program - the energy efficiency initiative which seeks to promote lighting upgrades as a contribution to reducing pollution levels and increasing energy savings.
