Standards for the Tracking and Management of Medical waste, 40 CFR 259, define regulated medical wastes and establish a pilot tracking program, pre-transport requirements, generator standards, on-site incinerator requirements, transporter requirements, standards for treatment, destruction, and disposal facilities, and requirements for rail shipment of regulated medical wastes. After evaluating the success of pilot programs, a nationwide standard for the tracking and management of regulated medical wastes will be established.
