There have been a number of developments across the globe that have demonstrated the power-generating efficiency of tidal power plants, but in spite of repeated calls for construction, actual development has not commenced. It was found that the specifics of these projects required significant capital expenditures and construction times of 7-10 years. These economic factors have rendered this option unattractive. This article examines the current viability of such projects and concludes that their ecological advantages bring about a significant cost savings and that these savings make tidal power projects economically attractive.
