Currently available on-line calibration monitoring methods and techniques have demonstrated their suitability in several pilot applications and a few production applications. The fitness of these techniques to tackle large scale, full-fledged, plant-wide applications is still however an open matter. In this paper the main issues that relate to the dimensionality of the on-line calibration monitoring application are identified and a number of prospective solutions to tackle these issues are proposed.
