Title: Lifetime Measurements for the First 2{sup +} States in {sup 162,} {sup 164}Gd Populated by the beta Decay of {sup 162,} {sup 164}Eu

Lifetimes of the first 2{sup +} states in {sup 162,} {sup 164}Gd have been measured by means of beta--gamma delayed coincidence technique for mass-separated {sup 162}Eu and {sup 164}Eu isotopes. Using the obtained lifetimes tau({sup 162}Gd) = 3.98(8) ns and tau({sup 164}Gd) = 4.0(2) ns, B(E2;0{sup +}square2{sup +}) values were deduced as B(E2;0{sup +}square2{sup +}) ({sup 162}Gd) 5.45(11) e{sup 2}b{sup 2} and B(E2;0{sup +}square2{sup +}) ({sup 164}Gd) = 5.2(3) e{sup 2}b{sup 2}.
