The choice of structural material for future fusion plants is based on a multiplicity of considerations. While these materials should possess adequate thermo-mechanical properties they should also satisfy certain criteria with regard to the eventual treatment and disposal of radioactive wastes. From this point of view it is important to have a knowledge of the radioactive inventory produced in the structural materials of a nuclear fusion plant during its operation and the evolution of this radioactivity in time. In this work the authors have calculated the radioactive inventory and decay heat produced in the structural components of the projected fusion plant IGNITOR-ULT due to D-T neutrons produced in the plasma. In particular, the dose rate and the heat production in the following materials have been studied: graphite in the first wall, INCONEL 625 in the vacuum vessel and copper in the magnet. All the results presented are for the outboard plasma components.
