Managment of concrete growth at the Mactaquac Generating Station

Remedial works undertaken to the water retaining structures of the Mactaquac project to date are summarized. The understanding of the effects of alkali-aggregate reaction on those structures and on the generating units is also discussed. The accumulated concrete growth deformations on the generating equipment has led to a major new remedial works program in the powerhouse which is being implemented. This includes diamond wire slot cutting, penstock movement joint construction and associated equipment remedial works.
