Radium isotopes have been determined by low-level {gamma}-spectrometry of barium sulfate precipitates from leaching solutions, and from waste-, river-, and fresh-water which have been collected from an uranium mine and their vicinity. It was found out that in case of a sulfate rich environment radium is fixed at solid matter and actinium is transported into the aquatic medium. Its decay to Ra-223 causes an enhanced Ra-223/Ra-226 ratio.
