The authors report on shuttle based measurements of SF{sub 6} densities in the troposphere and lower stratosphere, using infrared solar occultation measurements. They present vertical profile measurements over the latitude range 28 to 54{degrees}S. Densities were in the range 2 to 3 pptv, which in comparison with previous measurements indicate a rate of increase of 8.7{+-}2.2% per year.
