This article is a review of the properties of a superaustenitic stainless alloy that presents an alternative to type 316L stainless steel. Referenced as six-moly alloys because of their molybdenum content of approximately 6%, these alloys provide corrosion resistance at a lower cost. The various types of corrosion (pitting, crevice, stress) are discussed, and the welding of these alloys is also discussed. Numerical data on their physical and mechanical properties is listed, as well as compositions of the alloys and the weld fillers.
