Early rocket observations of auroral bremsstrahlung and its absorption in the mesosphere

Experimental data is reviewed for 10 ballon launched rocket flights of Geiger-Mueller tubes in the arctic and antarctic regions during 1957. Detailed accounts of the experiments are given. The flight data is analyzed by counting rate, latitude, altitude and shielding. 22 refs., 19 figs., 5 tabs.
