A practical artificial intelligence application in EOR projects

Two knowledge-based expert systems and a FORTRAN computer program were developed to aid the reservoir engineer in selecting appropriate EOR method(s), determining the quantity(ies) of recoverable oil, and evaluating economic feasibility of the selected method(s) for candidate reservoirs. Testing and sensitivity analyses showed that the developed expert systems are reliable and consistent with human experts` opinions. The expert systems were designed to accommodate new knowledge and technology that may emerge and become available in the future.
