Materials Data on SnI2 by Materials Project
Abstract
SnI2 is Rutile structured and crystallizes in the tetragonal P4_2/mnm space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Sn2+ is bonded to six equivalent I1- atoms to form a mixture of edge and corner-sharing SnI6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 47°. There are four shorter (3.20 Å) and two longer (3.22 Å) Sn–I bond lengths. I1- is bonded in a distorted T-shaped geometry to three equivalent Sn2+ atoms.
