U2Ni2In crystallizes in the triclinic P1 space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are four inequivalent U sites. In the first U site, U is bonded in a 6-coordinate geometry to six Ni and four In atoms. There are a spread of U–Ni bond distances ranging from 2.79–2.84 Å. There are two shorter (3.26 Å) and two longer (3.28 Å) U–In bond lengths. In the second U site, U is bonded in a 6-coordinate geometry to six Ni and four In atoms. There are a spread of U–Ni bond distances ranging from 2.79–2.84 Å. There are a spread of U–In bond distances ranging from 3.26–3.28 Å. In the third U site, U is bonded in a 6-coordinate geometry to six Ni and four In atoms. There are a spread of U–Ni bond distances ranging from 2.79–2.84 Å. There are a spread of U–In bond distances ranging from 3.27–3.29 Å. In the fourth U site, U is bonded in a 6-coordinate geometry to six Ni and four In atoms. There are a spread of U–Ni bond distances ranging from 2.77–2.85 Å. There are a spread of U–In bond distances ranging from 3.26–3.29 Å. There are four inequivalent Ni sites. In the first Ni site, Ni is bonded in a 9-coordinate geometry to six U, one Ni, and two In atoms. The Ni–Ni bond length is 2.68 Å. Both Ni–In bond lengths are 2.81 Å. In the second Ni site, Ni is bonded in a 9-coordinate geometry to six U, one Ni, and two In atoms. There are one shorter (2.80 Å) and one longer (2.81 Å) Ni–In bond lengths. In the third Ni site, Ni is bonded in a 9-coordinate geometry to six U, one Ni, and two In atoms. The Ni–Ni bond length is 2.68 Å. Both Ni–In bond lengths are 2.81 Å. In the fourth Ni site, Ni is bonded in a 9-coordinate geometry to six U, one Ni, and two In atoms. There are one shorter (2.81 Å) and one longer (2.82 Å) Ni–In bond lengths. There are two inequivalent In sites. In the first In site, In is bonded to eight U and four Ni atoms to form a mixture of face and corner-sharing InU8Ni4 cuboctahedra. In the second In site, In is bonded to eight U and four Ni atoms to form a mixture of face and corner-sharing InU8Ni4 cuboctahedra.
