Phase structure, magnetic monopoles, and vortices in the lattice Abelian Higgs model

We present Monte Carlo calculations of lattice Abelian Higgs models in four dimensions and with charges of the Higgs particles equal to q = 1, 2, and 6. The phase transitions are studied in the plane of the two coupling constants considering separately average plaquette and average link expectation values. The density of topological excitations is studied. In the confinement phase we find finite densities of magnetic-monopole currents, electric currents, and vortex currents. The magnetic-monopole currents vanish exponentially in the Coulomb phase. The density of electric currents and vortex currents is finite in the Coulomb phase and vanishes exponentially inmore » the Higgs phase.« less

Study of the interaction and scattering of vortices in the Abelian Higgs (or Ginzburg-Landau) model

Line vortices arising in the Ginzburg-Landau or Abelian Higgs model are studied numerically. For a wide range of parameters simulations of parallel line vortices and antivortices were performed and the results are reported. The head-on 90{degree} scattering is demonstrated to be independent of initial conditions provided that the vortex zeros first completely overlap. For critically coupled vortices the scattering behavior seems to be approximately velocity independent until {beta}{similar to}0.4 and the collisions are approximately elastic until {beta}{similar to}0.3. Mass spectrum and correlation function of quantum vortices in the Abelian Higgs model

A recently introduced method of vortex quantization based on a dual algebra involving nonlocal vortex fields is applied to the Abelian Higgs model in 2+1 dimensions. Explicit expressions for the vortex mass as well as for the asymptotic behavior of vortex correlation functions are obtained.

Self-dual vortices in the generalized Abelian Higgs model with independent Chern-Simons interaction

Self-dual vortex solutions are studied in detail in the generalized Abelian Higgs model with an independent Chern-Simons interaction. For special choices of couplings, it reduces to a Maxwell-Higgs model with two scalar fields, a Chern-Simons-Higgs model with two scalar fields, or other new models. We investigate the properties of the static solutions and perform detailed numerical analyses.
