Job Creation and Petroleum Independence with E85 in Texas
Protec Fuel project managed and project coordinated all the station projects that now offer higher ethanol fuel (E85). The challenge experienced was dealing with Major branded retail stations. The retail station that has a Major brand oil company on its fueling island, even though E85 fuel is an alternative fuel, remains a challenge with Major branded retail outlets as major oil companies do not support or like other fuels on the fuel island. The retail station is owned by a distributor or small business, however, the major oil companies make it difficult to add alternative fuels, like E85. Protec Fuel worked through this problem in showing that after E85 fuel is introduced on the fuel island, the retail station also experiences an average increase in regular gasoline sales volumes by 3%. Additionally, the retail station experienced increased foot traffic for inside store sales due to the increased sales traffic as a direct result of offering E85 fuels. Lastly, local and nearby federal and state fleet vehicles enjoyed the lower price per gallon thus saving tax payer dollars while also lower emissions by using E85 fuels.
