The composite 2LiBH4:MgH2 has been studied as a possible hydrogen storage material due to its high storage capacity. The present work is directed towards the clarification of the thermodynamic behavior of the system, especially in the temperature region above 400°C. We reveal different reaction paths during hydrogen absorption and desorption at various temperatures which has important implication for applications. At temperatures higher than 413°C, the observation of two different absorption pressure plateaus indicates that two different reactions occur, however, below this temperature there is only one plateau present in the system. During desorption, the double plateau can be observed at temperatures as low as 375°C.
