Title: The mining industry and enviromentalism: Shot gun wedding or custody dispute?

Conference ·

  1. Univ. of Texas, Austin, TX (United States)

The conflict between the mining industry and the environmentalists is discussed. It is fair to say that for the past quarter century, the political agenda of Western industralized socities has been driven by those opposed to forms of economic growth that provides sustenance to a growing population. They regard growth as the major threat to their social philosophy which champions a wholly new ethic of biocentric equality or living as if nature mattered. The world view of this conflict as well as the common sense difference that ethics makes are discussed.
