United fires up savings with Coen QLN burner
United Airlines, San Francisco, Calif., needed to meet new emission requirements of 30 ppm NO{sub x} and 400 ppm CO on its cogeneration facility, which has a 50-MW gas turbine, heat recovery steam generator and two auxiliary packaged boilers. United decided to retrofit one auxiliary boiler with Coen Co.`s new Quantum Low NO{sub x} (QLN) burner. The Coen burner was delivered as a complete integrated package which mounted to the existing window, allowing United to retain the windbox, primary air fan, controls, piping and flame safeguard for an economical retrofit. The facility burns natural gas and No. 2 oil and has a capacity of 75,000 pph steam. Operation and maintenance of the burner is simple. The QLN has no moving parts, so all it requires is adjustment at startup. Its single-point positioning controls interface with existing equipment.
