Title: Generic Tests of $C P$ Violation in High- $p_{T}$ Multilepton Signals at the LHC and Beyond

Abstract

We introduce a modification to the standard expression for tree-level $CP$-violation in scattering processes at the LHC, which is important when the initial state in not self-conjugate. Based on that, we propose a generic and model-independent search strategy for probing tree-level $CP$-violation in inclusive multi-lepton signals. We then use TeV-scale 4-fermion operators of the form $tuℓℓ$ and $tcℓℓ$ with complex Wilson coefficients as an illustrative example and show that it may generate $$\mathscr{O}$$(10%) $CP$ asymmetries that should be accessible at the LHC with an integrated luminosity of $$\mathscr{O}$$(1000) fb^-1.

Measurement of the direct $C P$ -violating parameter $A_{C P}$ in the decay $D^{+} \to K^{-} π^{+} π^{+}$

We measure the direct C P -violating parameter A C P for the decay of the charged charm meson, D + → K - π + π + (and charge conjugate), using the full 10.4 fb - 1more » sample of p p ¯ collisions at s = 1.96 TeV collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. We extract the raw reconstructed charge asymmetry by fitting the invariant mass distributions for the sum and difference of charge-specific samples. This quantity is then corrected for detector-related asymmetries using data-driven methods and for possible physics asymmetries (from B → D processes) using input from Monte Carlo simulation. We measure A C P = [ - 0.16 ± 0.15 ( stat ) ± 0.09 ( syst ) ] % , which is consistent with zero, as expected from the standard model prediction of C P conservation, and is the most precise measurement of this quantity to date.« less

We describe in detail a previously published measurement of CP violation in B⁰-B¯⁰ oscillations, based on an integrated luminosity of 425.7 fb^-1 collected by the BABAR experiment at the PEPII collider. We apply a novel technique to a sample of about 6 million B¯⁰→D*⁺ℓ^-ν_ℓ¯ decays selected with partial reconstruction of the D*+ meson. The charged lepton identifies the flavor of one B meson at its decay time, the flavor of the other B is determined by kaon tagging. We determine a CP violating asymmetry ACP=(N(B0B0)-N(B¯⁰B¯⁰))/(N(B⁰B⁰)+N(B¯⁰B¯⁰))=(0.06±0.17^+0.38_-0.32)% corresponding to Δ_CP=1-|q/p|=(0.29±0.84^+1.88_-1.61)×10^-3. This measurement is consistent and competitive with those obtained at the Bmore » factories with dilepton events.« less

Leptonic $C P$ violation and leptogenesis in minimal supersymmetric $SU (4)_{c} \times SU (2)_{L} \times SU (2)_{R}$

We consider a supersymmetric SU(4)_c × SU(2)_L × SU(2)_R model with a minimal number of Higgs multiplets and Dirac and Majorana CP-violating phases in the neutrino flavor mixing matrix. The model incorporates the charged fermion masses and quark mixings, and uses type I seesaw to explain the solar and atmospheric neutrino oscillations. With the neutrino oscillation data of two mass squared differences and three flavor mixing angles, we employ thermal leptogenesis and the observed baryon asymmetry to find the allowed regions for the Dirac and Majorana phases.
