We explore the relation between entanglement entropy of quantum many-body systems and the distribution of corresponding, properly selected, observables. Such a relation is necessary to actually measure the entanglement entropy. We show that, in general, the Shannon entropy of the probability distribution of certain symmetry observables gives a lower bound to the entropy. In some cases this bound is saturated and directly gives the entropy. We also show other cases in which the probability distribution contains enough information to extract the entropy: we show how this is done in several examples including BEC wave functions, the Dicke model, XY spinmore »« less

Experimental proposal for accurate determination of the phase relaxation time and testing the formation of thermalized non-equilibrated matter in highly excited quantum many-body systems

We estimate how accurate the phase relaxation time of quantum many-body systems can be determined from data on forward peaking of evaporating protons from a compound nucleus. The angular range and accuracy of the data needed for a reliable determination of the phase relaxation time are evaluated. The general method is applied to analyze the inelastic scattering of 18 MeV protons from Pt for which previously measured double differential cross sections for two angles in the evaporating domain of the spectra show a strong forward peaking. A new experiment for an improved determination of the phase relaxation time is proposed.more »« less

Entanglement clustering for ground-stateable quantum many-body states

Despite their fundamental importance in dictating the quantum-mechanical properties of a system, ground states of many-body local quantum Hamiltonians form a set of measure zero in the many-body Hilbert space. Hence determining whether a given many-body quantum state is ground-stateable is a challenging task. Here we propose an unsupervised machine learning approach, dubbed Entanglement Clustering (“EntanCl”), to separate out ground-stateable wave functions from those that must be excited-state wave functions using entanglement structure information.
