Size‐Tunable Synthesis of Hollow Gold Nanospheres through Control of Reaction Temperature

Here, it is demonstrated that the size tunable hollow gold nanospheres (HGNs) of ≈24–122 nm in diameter can be facilely achieved by controlling a signal parameter, reaction temperature, in the synthesis. The varied particle sizes of HGNs result in highly tunable surface plasmon resonance (SPR) absorption in the entire visible to near infrared region of the spectrum, with maximum peak position from 565 to 850 nm when the reaction temperature is varied from 80 to 10 °C. Methods of producing cobalt nanoparticles and hollow gold nanospheres and kits for practicing same

Provided are methods of producing cobalt nanoparticles (Co NPs). The methods include combining a cobalt salt, a capping agent, and a reducing agent, under Co NP synthesis conditions including a temperature selected to produce cobalt nanoparticles of a pre-selected diameter, where the temperature and pre-selected diameter are inversely related. In certain aspects, the methods further include producing hollow gold nano spheres (HGNs) using the cobalt nanoparticles as scaffolds. Also provided are cobalt nanoparticles and hollow gold nano spheres (HGNs) produced according to the present methods. Kits that find use in practicing the methods of the present disclosure are also provided.

New strategy to the controllable synthesis of CuInS{sub 2} hollow nanospheres and their applications in lithium ion batteries

A new strategy has been presented to the controllable synthesis of CuInS{sub 2} hollow nanospheres based on the Cu{sub 2}O solid nanospheres as the precursor in the absence of any surfactant. Specifically, the CuInS{sub 2} hollow nanospheres result from hydrothermal transformation of the intermediate Cu{sub 7}S{sub 4} hollow nanospheres derived from Cu{sub 2}O solid nanosphere precursor by the Kirkendall effect in the conversion process. Template-free synthesis of CdS hollow nanospheres based on an ionic liquid assisted hydrothermal process and their application in photocatalysis

Polycrystalline CdS hollow nanospheres with diameter of about 130 nm have been successfully synthesized in high yield by an ionic liquid (IL) assisted template-free hydrothermal method for the first time. Both the molar ratios of Cd/S precursor in the solution and the reaction temperature play important roles in the formation of the CdS hollow nanospheres. The concentrations of capping agent hexamethylenetetramine (HMT) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) are also crucial for the morphology and size of the final product.
